Exotic assets

Common term used to describe less-traditional assets such as vintage cars, art, wine and any other collectables – to name just a few. The term is often applied to such investments by SMSFs. Exotic assets are not prohibited under superannuation law but the Australian Taxation Office, as regulator of SMSFs, states exotic assets must not be used for a fund member’s enjoyment or benefit before retirement.
