Flagging agreements
After the breakdown of marriage, some couples want to defer reaching an agreement about how their superannuation benefits should be split. Such parties may make a flagging agreement which legally stops fund trustees dealing with the super benefits until the flag has been removed following mutual agreement or court order. Some separating couples want to delay the splitting of their super savings for such reasons as the pending retirement of one spouse when his or her exact super benefits will become known.
