Prices

The NAV Price is the value of the fund’s net assets relating to the portion of assets that form part of the ETF class of units, divided by the number of ETF units. All NAV Prices will be shown in Australian dollars except for the cross-listed NAV Prices which are in US dollars. A NAV Price will only be available whenever the relevant exchange is open for trading.  Accordingly, Vanguard will not strike a NAV Price for the Australian ETFs when the Australian Securities Exchange (“ASX”) is not open for trading; for a list of non-trading days on the ASX please see ASX Trading Calendar*. Similarly, Vanguard will not strike a NAV Price for the US Cross Listed ETFs when the New York Stock Exchange (“NYSE”) is not open for trading; for a list of non-trading days on the NYSE for the please see NYSE Calendar*.

The Domestic NAV Prices are usually published by 9am - 10am (EST) next business day.

INAV

An indicative Intra-day Net Asset Value (INAV) for VAS, VLC, VHY, VSC and VAP is available on IRESS and will soon be available on Bloomberg. The INAV is updated every 15 seconds.

The INAV is calculated from the index basket for the ETF and the share price for each of the securities in the basket.

The INAV should be treated as indicative information only and does not represent the price at which the ETF units can be traded on the market or the Net Asset Value of the ETF.  You should consult with your broker or financial adviser regarding the market price of ETF units.

To the extent permitted by law, Vanguard Investments Australia Ltd and its related bodies corporate as well as their respective directors, officers and employees accept no liability for any loss (whether direct or indirect, consequential, punitive or exemplary) resulting from any use of, or reliance on, the INAV.

Indicative methodology on how to calculate the INAV for share based ETFs.

The index basket for the ETF comprises the name of the shares, the quantity of the shares and an estimated cash component.

To calculate the INAV:

  • The quantity of individual shares in the basket is multiplied by the latest share price for that share.
  • This value is then summed across the different shares in the basket and then added to the estimated cash component to calculate a net market value for the index basket.
  • The net market value of the index basket is then divided by the creation unit size. For VAS and VAP this is 20,000 units.

The index basket can be sourced from the Vanguard website here.

Share prices can be sourced from a variety of pricing sources, such as the ASX website, general financial websites or your broker’s website. Alternatively they can be sourced from systems that specialise in the provision of financial data, such as IRESS, Bloomberg and Reuters.

Important notes about ETFs:

Only authorised trading participants under the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) market rules can apply to create and redeem ETF securities directly with Vanguard.

Other investors must buy and sell ETF securities on the secondary market through the ASX, with the assistance of their broker or adviser. In doing so, the investor will incur brokerage and may pay more than the net asset value price when buying and receive less than the net asset value price when selling.
