How much super you’ll need is a tricky question – and the answer depends on different factors.

A good place to start is to consider figures provided by the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA), the peak body on all things super.

How much are you looking to spend each year?

ASFA regularly estimates the amount of money a single person or a couple will need in retirement. This table considers how much money you would get on a full age pension (assuming you qualify), compared to how much ASFA estimates you will need for a ‘modest’ retirement or a ‘comfortable’ retirement. These figures are for each year in retirement.
