Lost and unclaimed super is a common problem in Australia.

You can end up with lost or unclaimed super if you have:

changed your name
moved jobs or changed addresses
forgotten to update details with your super fund in the last few years.

In most instances, super funds are required by law to send lost or unclaimed super to the ATO, where it becomes ‘unclaimed super money’.

The total amount of ‘lost’ super as at 30 June 2024 was just under $17.8 billion for just over 7.1 million accounts.

Thankfully, finding any lost super you may have is pretty straight forward. You can use your TFN to search the ATO’s SuperMatch database to find any other super accounts held in your name – including super held by the ATO on your behalf. It’s quick, and it’s easy.
