Super is likely to become one of your biggest assets – so it pays to engage early. And the more you engage, the more confident you’ll start to feel about your super.

Action: In your 20s: Set up online access (and add your super login to your password manager) so you can check in on your super every now and then. It’ll only take a few minutes, so do it now.

In your 30s: Make sure you don’t have multiple super funds. If you do, consider consolidating your super to avoid paying multiple sets of fees. And if you receive a promotion or a bonus, consider making a personal contribution to your super.

In your 40s: Consider making regular salary sacrifice contributions. Don’t worry if it’s not much – even small amounts can make a big difference over time thanks to compound interest.

In your 50s: Consider using the carry-forward rule and bring-forward rule to help give your super an important boost before retirement.
